The Primmers

Left to their AK79 compilation tracks – the chest-thrusting reggae of ‘You’re Gonna Get Done’ and bovver boy punk of ‘Funny Stories’ – The Primmers would remain one of the lesser lights of the Auckland punk scene.

Only the gruff ‘Police Wheels’, belatedly released on Rip, Shit Or Bust in 1983, indicated creative substance. And, yet, the New Zealand second wave punks did not want for talent with Cliff Gravelle (guitar, vocals – later Penknife Glides), Dave Bebb (drums, later Sydney’s The Allniters), Chris Malloy (bass), Miriam Ludbrook (keyboards, vocals) and Karel Van Bergen (vocals – later in The Features) in the group.

Future Shock (Live at Auckland University 1980)

Durham Lane, a belated compilation of the band's work including unreleased tracks, albeit with added crowd noises and some audio reworking, was issued by Cliff Gravelle in 2011.
