Members have included Posenai Mavaega, Tanya Muagututi'a (both long-time central figures in the collective), Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Chris Searle, MC Antsman (Anton Carter), Scribe, Dallas Tamaira, Ladi6, Brent Parks, and others. They have written, produced and toured a number of plays including works written by Oscar Kightley (Naked Samoans, Brotown), including Fresh Off The Boat, Dawn Raids, and Romeo and Tusi. Pacific Underground performed these in numerous theatres and schools across New Zealand and also overseas.
Pacific Underground have staged 10 Pacific Arts Festivals in Christchurch since 2001, featuring talent such as Albert Wendt, Fatu Feu'u, Adeaze, Nesian Mystik, Cydel and the Groovehouse, Tha Feelstyle, Toni Huata and Mark Vanilau.
On the musical tip, their debut release (they perform as Pacific Underground Music Productions, P.U.M.P.) was the 1999 album Landmark, featuring performances from Freeworld, Richie Broke, Beats N Pieces (featuring the recording debut from a young Scribe), Naked Samoans, Tanya Muagututi'a, and Pos Collective. They released their second album Island Summer in 2010, and it received several nominations at the Pacific Music Awards the following year.
in 2021 Tanya Muagututi'a and Posenai Mavaega were appointed Members of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Pacific performing arts.
