Edward Castelow

aka Ed Castelow, Dictaphone Blues

The mid to late nineties in the Christchurch music scene was a vibrant and creative time in the New Zealand musical landscape. Performers including James Milne (Lawrence Arabia), Bic Runga, Loves Ugly Children and Adam McGrath (The Eastern) all started out there, cutting their teeth at venues like the Dux de Lux and His Lordships tavern.

It was amidst this fertile backdrop that Edward Thomas Castelow first appeared, initially in the short-lived trio Android and then finally the longer lasting trio (and eventual four piece) degrees.k.
