Tami Neilson

It was some time back in the late 2000s when Canadian singer Tami Neilson seemed to burst into full view in New Zealand, incandescent, turning up everywhere: winning Tui awards for her albums, being interviewed or performing on radio and television, judging country music awards, headlining live shows, and writing songs and incidental music for mainstream TV series, The Brokenwood Mysteries.

Amid the current crop of introspective, folksy singer-songwriters, Tami Neilson stands apart, relaxed, confident and sassy, and wholly in charge of a tune – whether belted out at full tonsil power or laid back a little. The camera loves her, too. It’s no wonder that she attracted attention when she hit these shores; her natural dynamism pulls focus.
