Erny Belle

The tale behind Erny Belle’s first LP has been told in various media outlets a few times since its release in 2019. In a nutshell: city girl takes a hiatus and returns to her roots, camps out in her dad’s semi-pro studio in an old railway bus shed in Northland and writes and produces Venus Is Home, an album of abstract and ethereal Pacific-tinged country/folk/pop musings on life, loves, and family.

“People love a story,” says Erny aka Aimee Renata (Ngāpuhi). That they do, especially if it rings true. While she is moving on – her second album, Not Your Cupid, was released in November 2023 on Flying Nun Records – a closer look at that origin story offers insight into her current work and hints at possible futures.
