Mara TK

aka Mara Te Kahika

The son of a guitarist dubbed the “Māori Jimi Hendrix” and brother of an established blues musician, Mara Te Kahika (TK for short) has a strong musical lineage going back decades. However, despite the pedigree of his family, this has not stopped him from forging his own unique musical path.

Born in Auckland in the mid-1980s with Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Kahungunu and Tainui ancestry, Mara TK covered a lot of ground as a child, moving between Freemans Bay, Waiheke and Whanganui. This is what happens when your dad is Billy TK, guitarist for bands such as Human Instinct, Powerhouse and Wharemana.
