Since 1980, mention music in Dunedin, and the conversation will likely be about The Clean, The Chills, Sneaky Feelings or Look Blue Go Purple. But this Story Map shows that Dunedin’s music history goes back well over a century, to when Begg’s was founded in the city. Older generations remember Joe Brown’s dances, Sammys, The Captain Cook, and videos shot in a cemetery, at Lover’s Leap and at Cargill’s Castle. In 2022, young musicians benefit from the generosity of Dunedin born megagroup, Six60.
