Aaron Tokona

aka AHoriBuzz

As guitarist and vocalist in Weta, Fly My Pretties, Cairo Knife Fight – and performing as AHoriBuzz and on countless sessions for others – Aaron Tokona was one of New Zealand's most prominent and flamboyant musicians to turn up in the 1990s. Followers of New Zealand music, and his fellow musicians, were shocked to hear that Tokona died of a heart attack, aged 45, on 20 June 2020.

Through his career, he turned up in all sorts of bands and in all sorts of places. When he turned up in person his machine-gun cackle would often arrive well before him.

Trivia:

In 1997 Aaron Tokona filled in on guitar for Australian band The Superjesus for their New Zealand tour after original guitarist Chris Tennent left the band. Tokona turned down a permanent position in order to focus on Weta.
