Brett Adams

In 2022 Brett Adams released his first solo album, a critically acclaimed collection of instrumental pieces titled Black Clouds In Stereo (Rattle 2022). Composed and recorded during Covid lockdowns in his Waitakere home, these dramatic soundscapes are a realisation of Adams’s potential as an artist. Their melancholy abstractions and musical virtuosity provide insights into both his interior world and his influences.

The album had been a long time coming. Adams is one of New Zealand’s most sought-after guitarists. As well as being a member of The Mockers at their peak, he has fronted alt-country band The Bads with his partner Dianne Swann, and been a key element of the band for the Come Together concert series. His infectious energy and inspired playing has seen Adams accompany artists as varied as Tim Finn, Rodriguez, Don Walker (ex-Cold Chisel), Graham Brazier, Dave McArtney, Tami Neilson, The Exponents, Carnivorous Plant Society, Jan Hellriegel, and more.
