Barnaby Weir

aka Flash Harry, Barnaby

No musical project is too big or small for the Wellington-based singer-songwriter, guitarist and DJ Barnaby Weir. As a musical chameleon, his portfolio includes reggae, funk, soul, jazz and folk. Between collaborative projects and solo efforts, he has toured with, performed alongside, or opened for Roots Manuva, John Brown’s Body, Horace Andy, The Zimbo Trio, Apollo Nove, Katchafire, Ladi6, Fat Freddy’s Drop, The Nudge, King Kapisi, Salmonella Dub, Shapeshifter and Anika Moa.

Weir is probably best known as one of the founding members of reggae/funk band The Black Seeds and the musical director of folk/rock collaborative Fly My Pretties. However he has also recorded and performed under his own name, and as Flash Harry. In earlier days he also played in Wellington outfit Dub Connection, and The Verbs (which Weir refers to as “a serious teenage band”). He even had a fledgling rock band in primary school.
